California Foundation Works was founded in 2010 by my father and me — two people from different but complementary worlds. My father was a civil engineer who earned his degree from Cal State Long Beach in the 1970s and spent his career in road planning and infrastructure. I came from commercial and residential real estate, where I saw firsthand how structural integrity, drainage, and quality workmanship directly protect a property’s long-term value.
Before starting the company, we had worked alongside Juan — an independent contractor with decades of hands-on construction experience and a reputation built on hard work and reliability. When he heard what we were planning, he asked to join us. We said yes without hesitation.
Together, the three of us saw a real gap in Los Angeles: homeowners needed foundation and drainage specialists who combined technical expertise with honest communication. That shared vision became our company.

My father and Juan both knew what it meant to work hard for every opportunity. As immigrants in industries that weren’t always welcoming, they faced hardship and discrimination — and came out the other side with humility, discipline, and an unshakable sense of integrity. My father believed deeply that people matter as much as the work itself. It didn’t matter if you were a CEO or a janitor — he treated everyone with the same respect and dignity.
He also gave me a piece of advice I carry with me every day: “when you’re struggling, go find someone who needs help. Helping others gives you strength you didn’t know you had.”
Today, Juan and I continue to run California Foundation Works guided by those same values.
